Philips MicroDose Mammography Air Cooled
Excellent detection efficiency at a very low dose. MicroDose Mammography is a full-field digital
mammography system for screening mammography. This system utilizes a direct-digital photon
counting detector allowing high dose efficiency that makes it possible to conduct exams with low
radiation dose -without compromising image quality. A scanning technique is employed to reduce
scattered radiation, thereby increasing the contrast in the images. An ergonomic design offers
speed and convenience that both patients and staff appreciate - users can perform as many as 15
four-image examinations per hour.
MicroDose Mammography uses standard protocols such as DICOM to facilitate integration in the
digital environment in hospitals and clinics.
MicroDose Mammography components:
• The mammography stand
• Direct-digital Photon counting detector
• X-ray tube and high-voltage generator
• Collimator system
• Curved patient support and three compression paddles: Standard, high edge and small size
• Electrical cabinet
• Acquisition workstation (AW)
• Lead glass X-Ray radiation shield
The mammography stand with scanning technique.
The mammography stand consists of a compact supporting column and gantry. The gantry
movements, adjustable from four (4) different positions are fully motorized. The open design of
the gantry allows for patients to be examined either standing or seated as needed.
The ergonomic design offers speed and convenience that both patients and staff appreciate -
users can perform as many as 15 four-image examinations per hour.
The Smart AEC functionality automatically adjusts the exposure parameters for the individual
breast. This provides high image quality with a minimal radiation dose. Thanks to the unique
scanning technique, scattered radiation is reduced thereby increasing the contrast in the images.
Direct-digital Photon counting detector
The Philips MicroDose Mammography detector is based on photon counting technology which literally
counts individual X-ray photons. This makes it possible to eliminate electronic noise, an important
factor for image quality, and reduce the radiation dose given to the patient.

Collimator system
The collimator system is specially designed to reduce the scattered radiation and thereby increase
the contrast in the images. The scattered radiation is reduced by 97% without increasing the
radiation dose to the patient. Collimator 1 removes void photons, i.e. those that are not initially
directed towards the detector. Collimator 2 removes the scattered photons from the breast in the
remaining beam.
Patient support and compression paddles
The design of the patient support and the compression paddle is an excellent match between
comfort and size. The field of view of the patient support and the standard compression paddle is
24x 26 cm, which is large enough for the majority of all patients.

The specially designed mobile kit provides a proper and secure installation of MicroDose
Mammography on the mobile setting (e. g. in a trailer, a bus or a truck). Thanks to the mobile kit,
there is no need to strap down the unit or provide additional security during transport.

The spot compression paddle is used during clinical mammography when extra compression is
required to force aside other tissue and achieve a detailed image of a specific area of the breast.
This paddle is also used together with Philips Diagnostic Scan. (Sold separately)
The paddle is installed by simply inserting the handles into place on the MicroDose.
Once in place, the paddle is stable and won´t tilt. Detaching for changing or cleaning is equally
easy for smooth workflow.

details in spot compression images. This is achieved by using higher dose on a spot compression
